A college group built around what Dehradun actually needs
Nav Chetna Group of Colleges is a private higher education group operating two campuses in Dehradun — one at Maduwala, near Bala Sundri Mandir, and one at Garhi Cantt on Dakra Road.
The group started in 2004 with a modest intake in commerce and arts. What it has become since is unusual for a private college in Uttarakhand: a place that runs a Pharmacy Council-approved D.Pharm, an NCTE-recognised B.Ed., a State Nursing Council-approved B.Sc. Nursing and G.N.M., a full set of allied health degrees, and the standard commerce, management, computing, science and humanities degrees — all under one management.
That breadth is deliberate. Families in Dehradun and the surrounding hill districts should not have to send a child to another state for a nursing degree while sending a second child somewhere else for a B.Com. And keeping the programmes together is what allows the group to run laboratories, transport and hostels at a cost that keeps annual fees where they are.
More than five thousand students have studied here. A large proportion are the first in their family to attend college, and a large proportion come from outside Dehradun city. Both of those facts shape how the place is run.

To be the college in Uttarakhand that a family can trust with any of their children, whatever they want to study — and to send every one of them out with a qualification that holds its value and a skill someone will pay for.
Mission
To teach professional and general higher education to a consistent standard; to keep fees within reach of the families we serve; to place clinical, laboratory and internship training at the centre of the curriculum rather than at its edge; and to know our students individually.
Values
Honesty about what a qualification will and will not do. Discipline in attendance, uniform and conduct. Respect across background, caste and gender. And the conviction that a student from a small town in the hills should get the same teaching as anyone else.
Twenty-one years, step by step
2004
Nav Chetna opens in Dehradun with a small intake in commerce and arts.
2009
The Garhi Cantt campus is established on Dakra Road to take the growing commerce, management and computing intake.
2013
Teacher education begins — the B.Ed. programme receives National Council for Teacher Education recognition.
2016
The Diploma in Pharmacy is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India and the School of Pharmacy is formed.
2019
Nursing and allied health programmes commence at the Maduwala campus with hospital training arrangements in place.
2022
Laboratory and clinical training capacity is expanded across both campuses.
2025
Computer laboratories expanded and campus-wide connectivity upgraded.
2026
Twenty programmes across nine schools and two campuses; over 5,000 students taught.

A private college can be run in two ways. It can be run as an enrolment business, in which case the number that matters is how many students sign up. Or it can be run as a teaching institution, in which case the number that matters is how many finish, and what they are able to do afterwards.
We have tried to run Nav Chetna the second way for twenty-one years. It is why our clinical postings start in the first year rather than the third. It is why the fee schedule is published rather than negotiated. It is why nine separate scholarship heads exist, and why a girl from a family that cannot pay full fees can still study nursing here.
