Campus rules and expectations
Attendance
Minimum attendance is set by the affiliating university and, for professional programmes, by the regulating council. Theory and clinical/laboratory attendance are counted separately where both apply.
Uniform and identity card
Uniform is compulsory on campus and in clinical postings. The identity card must be carried at all times and produced on request.
Conduct
Ragging in any form is prohibited and is a criminal offence under the law. Any complaint is acted on immediately. Substance use on campus, damage to property and disruption of teaching are grounds for disciplinary action.
Examination
Admit cards are issued on payment of the examination fee and confirmation of attendance. Use of unfair means in an examination is reported to the university and handled under its rules, not the college's.
Clinical postings
Students in nursing, allied health and pharmacy must observe the discipline, dress and confidentiality requirements of the host hospital. Patient information is confidential without exception.
Grievances
A grievance may be raised with the head of department in the first instance and with the principal thereafter. Complaints of harassment or discrimination may be brought directly to the principal.
If something is going wrong, say so early
Students fall behind for reasons that have nothing to do with ability — a family situation at home, money, illness, a subject that did not click in the first month and never recovered. Almost all of these are fixable if the department knows about them in week four rather than week thirty.
Talk to your head of department. If the matter is financial, the admission and accounts office can discuss instalment terms or a concession review. If it is academic, extra sessions can usually be arranged. If it is personal, it will be treated as confidential.
This is not a formality. A ninety-two per cent on-time graduation rate in a college with our intake profile is only achievable because problems get raised early.
